Advice for Newcomers

Two left feet?

You’ll soon learn that you have one of each.

No partner?

No worries! Many people come on their own. Even if you bring a partner we encourage you to dance with others as it provides a better learning experience.

Shy?

Don’t be - we’re a friendly bunch.

Clothing?

‘Smart-casual’ is what most people wear. Loose, cool and comfortable is what we suggest.

Jeans and t-shirt are fine.

Shoes?

Avoid those with grip soles i.e. trainers. Smooth soles are preferable.  Flip-flops, mules or other loose shoes are a  no-no! If you want to buy shoes designed for dancing see the Salsa Links page.

How long does it take to learn?

See Advice for Beginners for more information.

We recommend 12 regular lessons will get you to a reasonable level of competence.

Club Salsa classes always start with a short warm up routine—see pictures below.
